Did
I just say that?:
|
Yes,
I believe I did say martial arts audio-books.
In fact I am *positive*
I used that phrase. Sure we all know about
audio-books - the kind you give to little
children who can't read, right? "Winnie
the Poo" stuff? Wrong answer -
bzzzz, your out!
|
Side
note: Make
sure you check out all the free stuff inside
'The
Martial Arts Vault' when
you're finished having a look
at this page!

Like
with the e-book, audio-cd (or DVD, mp3,
tapes etc.) or audio books as it is termed is
very much something used by adults (from
students, to sports people, to managers). In fact
it is something that is growing in popularity,
and will continue doing so. Now why is that?
|
I
am sure you are aware that we use the senses
of sight, hearing and touch to aquire, maintain
and improve skills. Of course smell
and taste are involved too (sometimes heavily),
but they're a little outside off the
everyday learning prosess - like school-work,
speaking a language, riding a bike,
working a computer, being taught martial
arts aso.
|
Why
isn't he paying attention?:
|
You
have, I am sure, talked to someone who seem
to be "somewhere else". And I'm
equally confident that it has ticked you
off that this person "doesn't pay attention",
am I right? He or she isn't looking at you,
so you assume they're just not paying attention.
|
By all means you may be right - they may
be lost in space all together! Or, it may
be a cultural thing - that it is bad manners
for them to look at you. Or, and this is
often times the case: They use hearing as
their primary (preferred) source of
gathering information, being what we call
"auditory". Just because you and
I are "visual" (preferring the
use of sight) doesn't mean that this
kid or that woman is! Yes, I am actually
saying that people are different :-)
|
So,
this person who would use his hearing to
gather information - would he be likely
to enjoy reading a book, something
that is a visual task? Or will he feel more
comfortable by hearing the same information
read to him? What do you think? Why do you
thing many people talk to themselves as they read - to
get on your nerves?
|
By
all means, a martial arts audio-book, or
electronic audio medium with any other
topic for that matter, is great when your're
walking, waiting somewhere, riding the train
to work, washing the dishes, or simply resting
before going to bed.
|
Naturally your cautious
about walking and jogging with headphones
on as it is a surefire way to being picked
as a target, but you knew that right...
Right?
|
|
We
(all of us) use audio not only to listen
to music, but to learn a new language, get
the latest news, relax, gather information,
prepare a speach, prepare for a meeting,
get in the mood, wind up before a match,
wind down, help visualize, meditate,
find direction and a host of other things
I'm sure. And as we have seen, for
some folks the use of audio is more important
than it is for others.
|
So,
to sum it up: Yes, Martial Arts audio-books
shouldn't be such a strange beast after
all. But then there's a an important question:
Are there any available?
|
In
fact, why not check it out for yourself?:
|
In
the right-hand column you'll find links
to some martial arts
audio-books from Amazon. Below are some
"listen to" books
from E-bay (auctions updated in realtime),
as well as books from a place called Audible.com.
They have a huge selection of audio-books
on any topic you can imagine (lots of sports
books and self help issues)!
|
|
|

|
Do
remember: You can listen to a variety of
audio-books on your iPod (or Palm and
similar handheld devices), some cellular
phones (which is getting more and more common), walkmans,
diskmans, computers, lap-tops, casette
decks, car stereo, home stereo, mp3
players and so on. It's truly a great way
to learn!
