Yes,
why electronic books indeed?:
|
As
stated earlier there are several reasons, some
of them good reasons, why e-books may be an
alternative to the ordinary paper variety. Sometimes an
author chooses both formats, other times one or the
other.
|
|
|
To
repeat myself again: The main reason that this type
of book is
growing in popularity is that they can be downloaded
(delivered)
electronically (by e-mail, web, FTP, CD etc.). This
means that the book can be delivered almost instantly.
Instant gratification!
|
I
may sound like a broken record already: Another benefit
is that they can be updated and built upon. This makes
it easy for an author to add to the book as a bonus
to the customer. It is easy to add new content, redo
the book, and upload the new version.
|
There
is also the issue of interactivity. Primarily this means
that an e-book can have (and often has) active
links to websites, audio, flash, video, resources, articles etc.
|
Since
it costs less to produce an e-book it will typically
have a lower price (sometimes much less) than the paper
equivalent.
|
You
don't need to produce a thousand or so copies like you
normally would have to with a paper book. This
means that it is possible to produce books on issues
and niches that would have proven impractical or outright
impossible to write for with ordinary books.
|
Yet
another benefit is the Audio Book, a type of e-book. This
is great for people who have a problem with the
eye-sight, who are travelling a lot by car (and wishes
to study while they drive), or who simply prefer to
hear things (auditive) instead of seeing (visual).
Not all people like to read!
|
Not
so long ago
it was rather tiresome to read an e-book for any length
of time on a computer monitor. With modern day flat screens
this is no longer an issue.
|
On
a side note: Do remember to rest the eyes when you read
a book or anything else on a monitor! Take frequent
rests, and don't forget to blink (it is quite normal to have
dry eyes if you stare for too long on a screen)!
|
Finally,
let us not forget that you can help by cutting
down on the ever growing use of paper! There's another
reason to pat yourself on the back...
